Kate is originally from Cairns, but has spent the last five and half years living in China mainland and Taiwan. She is in her second year of a PhD in Environmental Science and Engineering at Tsinghua University, Beijing, having graduated from her Master at Tsinghua in 2015. Her main area of research is the water-energy nexus. Her papers have quantified energy use and greenhouse gas emissions for urban water supply in China and identified influencing factors. Her recent research includes energy for pumping in high-rise buildings, which is often overlooked but is particularly important in urban China.
